With a Suitcase of Saris was written by the daughters and granddaughters
of some of the first  Indian women to settle in New Zealand.

These pioneer women left the warmth

of their close-knit village communities

to live in faraway, isolated, alien-cultured islands. Many of them came, sometimes with young kids in tow, to
live with husbands they barely knew.

 

They arrived with nothing but a suitcase of cotton saris and a ton of courage. 

We wanted to pass these incredible stories of these wonderful women
on to you.
